Emmanuel Appiah, Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of Computerized School Selection Placement System has appealed to the Ghana Education Service to reduce the number of subjects taught at Junior and Senior Secondary Schools. He said the 10 subjects for Junior Secondary Schools and eight for Senior Secondary Schools did not give students enough time to study subjects that would prepare them adequately for the future. Mr Appiah made the appeal when addressing participants at the Eastern Regional Sanitation Quiz competition organized sat Koforidua on Thursday. He noted that English Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies 6 and French were important subjects that should be given the needed attention and taught in schools to make the students more focused. Mr Appiah said French should be included because Ghana had Francophone countries as neighbors and should be considered as a second official language. Ms Sarah Simpson, Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of School Health Education Programme said the quiz was to promote hygienic behavior among school children and improve upon teaching and learning. She appealed to teachers and schools to attach importance to school hygiene and sanitation education. Seventeen schools that won the quiz competition in the districts participated at the regional level which was won by New Juaben Municipality with 31 points.
