The Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG), is petitioning the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice over the conduct of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister Mohammed Mumuni.
AFAG is seeking a declaration by the Commission that Alhaji Mumuni is unfit to hold an executive office.
The pressure group opposed the nomination of Alhaji Mumuni as a minister, citing an audit report that made adverse findings against him.
Regardless of their vehement protestations, the nominee was vetted, albeit under controversial circumstances, passed and approved by Parliament in a vote.
The Minority members of the vetting committee had argued that since Mohammed Mumuni had gone to court over issues raised by an adverse audit report against him, it would be more appropriate for him to clear the court case first before appearing for vetting.
Their stance was based on the fact that Alhaji Mumuni had sued the Daily Guide newspaper over the audit report and explained that natural justice demanded that comments were stayed on the subjudice matter.
But the vetting committee Chairman, Doe Adjaho ruled that the vetting could go on without reference to the controversial audit report.
The minority members walkedout in protest of the majority side's insistence on proceeding with the vetting process, culminating in the Foreign Minister's approval.
Subsequently the court ruled against Mr. Mumuni, who had sued the newspaper for libel over its publications of the said audit report.
Now, AFAG wants CHRAJ to investigate the issues and recommend his removal from office.
Spokesperson for the group, Samuel Awuku told Joy News the Commission was being petitioned on three issues; “The forensic audit report made by the Auditor-General and the adverse and damning findings made against the sitting Foreign Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni.
“Secondly we will also be petitioning the Commission on the illegal imposition of curfew on Bawku when he (Alhaji Mumuni) was then the caretaker minister (for Interior) and also the dismissal of the NADMO and DVLA bosses.”
Mr. Awuku also accused the Foreign Minister of unlawfully abrogating a contract between the government of Ghana and the African Legal Aid.
The AFAG spokesperson said the petition was one of the lawful means within which to seek justice.
