South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) is holding celebrations around the country as vote counting in general elections draws to a close.
The electoral commission says counting will finish on Friday night, but final results will be announced on Saturday.
With some 17m votes counted so far, the ANC has 66.2%, well ahead of the Democratic Alliance with 16% and the new Congress of the People at 7%.
But the ANC looks set to lose the Western Cape province to its rivals.
In all the other eight provinces, however, the ANC is well ahead.
The election turnout has been extremely high, as much as 80% in some places, in the country's fourth and most competitive poll since the end of apartheid 15 years ago.
In Kwazu-Natal, home province of ANC leader Jacob Zuma, the ANC says it has taken all the strongholds of the Inkatha Freedom Party, giving it an outright majority there for the first time.
"It is a joyous if not an outright emotional day for the ANC," ANC provincial secretary Senzo Mchunu said, the South African Press Association reports.
Some roads into central Durban were closed on Friday evening to allow the ANC to hold a huge celebration at the City Hall, a party official said.
In Johannesburg, several thousand ANC supporters waving flags and wearing party T-Shirts gathered at Soccer City stadium to party.
The BBC's Karen Allen in Johannesburg says they were joined by members of the ANC's National Executive Committee - including Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who could be seen dancing on stage.
