A member of the Council of State, Dr. Bernard Glover has blamed the falling standards in university education on the proliferation of private universities.
Dr. Bernard Glover, an academician who for a long period sat on the University of Cape Coast academic board, said in an interview with Citi News that the academic performance of most students these private universities admit are not up to scratch having an overall effect on the quality of graduates churned out by the nation’s universities.
According to him because the non-public universities are usually interested in making profits, particular attention is not given to the grades the students’ come in with.
Dr. Glover charged the accrediting agencies to sit up and make sure the quality of graduates the nation produces is not below the mark, since universities worldwide are competitive institutions.
On the raging debate on the duration of the Senior High School, Dr. Glover said the nation is “changing gears too quickly”.
He is of the view that students’ lives should not be trifled with, in the name of finding the appropriate duration of study for the senior high school.
Dr. Bernard Glover said the forum promised by the Education Minister on the issue must be used to ascertain what the public wants.
