The Church Hall of the Abossey Okai branch of Jesus Connection Church in Accra was last week Wednesday turned into a boxing ring when Rev. Kojo Ansah, a junior pastor of the church, traded blows with a female choirister over an insult the latter was alleged to have hurled at him.
Vida Otoo, the female choirister, was reported to have described the pastor as "okurasini" (a villager).
Matters came to a head when some of the male choiristers present joined the fray and gave Pastor Ansah severe beatings that led to injuries, including bruises on his face.
DSP Ebenezer Oppong of the Accra West Divisional Police Command, Kaneshie, confirmed that Vida Otoo, 32, reported a case of assault against Pastor Ansah, 30, to the police.
He said on the fateful day, after church services were over the choir decided to rehearse some songs when Pastor Ansah, who lives on the church premises allegedly removed the prepaid credit card from the meter which disrupted power supply and brought the rehearsal to a halt as the musical instruments could not be used.
Pastor Ansah upon hearing the insult rushed on Vida and gave her a slap which sent her reeling to the floor.
The pastor later stood astride Vida and continued beating her. This attracted six male choiristers who joined the fight and gave the pastor some severe beatings leading to injuries including bruises on the face. Other members of the church who noticed the incident eventually came to the rescue of the pastor.
DSP Oppong said, the case is still under investigations and the male choiristers who allegedly beat the pastor have also been invited to assist with investigations.
