Bill Clinton is to be the new UN special envoy to Haiti, a spokesman for the former US president said.
Mr Clinton was quoted by the Miami Herald newspaper as saying he would be honoured to accept the position.
He would work to help Haiti rebuild after last year's tropical storms which claimed the lives of nearly 800 people and caused $1bn (£660m) in damage.
The UN is expected to confirm Mr Clinton's new role. The ex-leader helped raise funds for Haiti recently.
In March, he visited the country along with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, spurring a global fundraising effort which raised more than $300m for Haiti's rebuilding effort.
Because of Mr Clinton's marriage to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, US state department lawyers must authorise his new role.
Haiti does not currently have a special UN envoy and it is not clear what Mr Clinton's duties will be, the Associated Press news agency reports.
The Miami Herald, which first announced the appointment, said he would be expected to visit the Caribbean country at least four times a year.
