Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Oheneba Danso, fears the country’s health system will be challenged by the feared coronavirus disease.
Delivering a solidarity message at the 4th Annual Review Meeting of the Tamale Teaching Hospital in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, Dr Danso advised Ghanaians to take ongoing campaign messages seriously and become advocates against the disease.
“Even Europe is currently challenged; our system is certainly going to be challenged. Last Monday we met and I can tell you a lot of measures have been put in place but our health system is overstretched because there is a limit as to how far we can go,” he noted.
He said the coronavirus has come to add to the many challenges bedeviling teaching hospitals across the country and urged everyone, especially those with smartphones to take seriously, preventive messages from WHO and health experts.
“We must equip ourselves with the knowledge immediately and everybody must know the dos and the dons,” Dr Danso added.
Dr Danso further advised health professionals to take precautionary measures in their line of duty and communicate accurate messages to the public.
Ghana is the latest African country to confirm two cases.
In a televised address by Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu on Thursday, March 12, 2020, said both cases were imported.
According to him, the individuals returned to Ghana, one from Norway, and the other from Turkey.
