Government has launched a new online portal to update Ghanaians on the COVID-19 cases recorded in the country.
Addressing the press on Sunday, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the website, www.ghanahealthservice.org/covid19/ will be updated every six hours to make information on the pandemic easily accessible by citizens.
“It is very important that we get the right information out there so we would be updating it [website] every six hours with a life count of cases in Ghana.
“So that anybody who wants information can access the facts and tone down on the speculation,” he said.
He further called on the media to rely on the web page in disseminating information so as to not report a story that could cause fear and panic amongst Ghanaians.
“We are asking everybody [the media] to spread calm and not fear. And the way to spread calm is to share the preventive etiquette that is being articulated.”
The new online portal follows the announcement of the Ghana Health Service that Ghana has recorded four more cases in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to six.
Meanwhile, government says people arriving in Ghana from countries with over 200 reported cases of coronavirus will not be allowed into the country.
This directive, however, does not affect Ghanaian citizens and persons with Ghana residence permits but persons who will be subjected to 14 days mandatory self-quarantine.
The Director of Public Health at GHS, Dr Badu Sarkodie also added that Ghana has investigated over 100 suspected coronavirus cases and only six has turned out positive.
