Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has called on Ghanaians to give back to their society and churches as Ghana struggles to deal with the coronavirus pandemic causing havoc around the world.
In a sermon about the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem this Palm Sunday, Pastor Mensa Otabil said it is during these difficult times that the most vulnerable in society need to be taken care of through donations and gifts from well to do citizens.
He said giving to the church in the form of offertory is also important because the funds can be donated to support efforts by government in the fight against Covid-19.
According to him, many churches in the lockdown areas are also using church offertory, which is now being collected digitally, to provide for the basic needs of members of the church who are destitute.
ICGC on April, 2 donated GH¢100,000 to the Covid-19 National Trust Fund in support of government’s efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
Some ICGC churches also donated food items to congregants at the start of the lockdown.
Aside, ICGC, other churches including the Maker’s House Chapel, the Church of Pentecost among others have also contributed immensely to the fight against the coronavirus and ensuring that members of their church and the general public do not die of starvation during the 14 days lockdown.
