The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has described the broadcast of pornographic material by Accra-based GHOne as ‘ethically reprehensible, culturally repulsive and morally repugnant’.
According to a statement signed by the Association’s General Secretary, Kofi Yeboah, although the broadcast was on the channel’s late-night adult show, Duvet, showing nude contents on television is offensive to the sensibilities of viewers and totally unacceptable.
“The traditional functions of the media are to inform, educate and entertain, which ultimately help to promote national development.
“However, the GJA insists in the discharge of those functions, the media must uphold the ethics of the profession and serve the best interest of the public,” Mr Yeboah indicated.
He further urged all media houses and practitioners to adhere to the GJA code of ethics when discharging its duties. “A journalist shows good taste, avoids vulgarity and the use of indecent language and images.”
