Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu says he still stands by his claim that government is buying Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for the Electoral Commission (EC).
In an interview with Joy News’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo, the Tamale South MP said he only quoted the Elections Director of EC, Dr Dr Serebuor Quaicoe.
According to him, Dr Quaicoe made a revelation on Joy FM’s Newsfile that the Commission has received sufficient PPEs from government which will enable it to undertake the new voters’ registration.
“I just don't comment on matters and I just don't comment on issues I was quoting the Dr Serebour Quaicoe of the electoral commission,” Mr Iddrisu clarified.
“So who is misleading the people, me, Harruna Iddrisu or Dr serebour of the electoral commission?” he quizzed.
Speaking at a Minority press conference on Thursday, May 7, the Minority leader among other statements, criticised government for supplying PPEs to EC officials while health workers lacked same.
The outspoken MP described this as “troubling and shocking.”
However, responding to the legislator through a statement on Monday, the Commission denied and dismissed the claim.
The Commission said it “finds it troubling that the Leader of the Minority Party in Parliament will put out information of this nature without substantiating its authenticity.”
