The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected claims they masterminded the demolition of homes and the subsequent burning of the belongings of the migrant fish farmers at Lapla, Bongase in the Banda district of the Bono Region.
Bui Power Authority (BPA) has already in a statement said the exercise, carried out on 18th May 2020, was not done on tribal or political lines as being alleged by some officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the affected persons, who are mostly from the Volta Region.
Minority MPs had earlier visited the affected persons and chiefs of Bongase to have first-hand information and also commiserate with the over 150 displaced persons.

At a press conference in Banda Ahenkro, the Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Charles Adjei noted that it is reckless and unfortunate for the NDC to strenuously try to rope leaders of the NPP, especially their parliamentary candidate Joe Dankwah, into an action purely carried out by a state institution.
The chairman said he cannot fathom how the NPP, which does not own the settlement land nor the BPA, can order such an institution to take such a decision.
“We want to also state that Banda NPP has no evil mind against Voltarians/Ewes or any tribe residing in the Banda district”, he said, adding that they have stayed with them for over 100 years without problems as they are all Ghanaians.
He further pleaded with the Voltarians to consider such tribal comments as coming from a lazy politician who desires to ride on tribal lines to win political power, insisting, “the Ghanaian electorate, including Voltarians, are too discerning to vote on tribal lines, rather, they will vote for a party with policies that will improve their lives."

He believes developmental projects such as the construction of the Menji to Bui and Nsawkaw to Banda Boase roads in addition to some social intervention policies such as the Re-afforestation, planting for food and jobs, free SHS and one million per constituency projects are what will win them votes from all residents of the district.
Charles Adjei also said the attempt by the NDC, particularly the member of parliament for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, is just a calculated effort and a preparatory excuse in the event he loses the parliamentary seat in the December election.
“Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim and the NDC have seen defeat ahead of them and would want to create some false allegations against the NPP and push them into the minds of people in Banda. This is for the MP to get a source to blame when he loses the 2020 elections”, he said.
The NPP expressed their best wishes to all the affected persons at Lapla.
