The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) says it is working hard to increase awareness against the branding of coronavirus survivors.
Chairperson of the Commission, Josephine Nkrumah told Joy FM's Super Morning Show that part of these measures includes employing the services of some survivors to act as ambassadors to educate the public.
“Those who will come out to share with us their experiences in order for us to empathise with them and understand that it could happen to anyone of us and therefore our approach should change.
“People are becoming more aware of the facts from the myths when it comes to stigmatization and the coronavirus in general” she said.
She stated that the commission is glad when employers consider reintegration their staff who have recovered from Covid-19 as stigma affects productivity.
According to her, a lot of the NCCE’s education is targeted at hotspots as identified by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Speaking further, she commended The Multimedia Group Limited for its vigorous campaign against the stigmatisation of Covid-19 patients across the country.
“At Multimedia, you have a few cases and I’m happy to see how you have embraced,” she told host of Joy SMS, Kojo Yankson.
Meanwhile, members of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) and other bodies are being trained to correct the use of labels on people who have tested positive for Coronavirus.
The outfit is working in partnership with the Ghana Psychological Association who will offer mental health aid to victims of stigma.
