The Conference of Heads of Assisted Second Cycle Schools (CHASS) has promised to prevent a repeat of the KNUST SHS incident where a final year student died.

The student [name withheld] died after teachers allegedly abandoned him for fear of contracting Covid-19.

The headmistress of the school has since been interdicted, pending investigations by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Ashanti Regional President of CHASS, Rev Fr. Stephen Owusu Sekyere who described the incident as unfortunate told Joy News that headmasters have learnt their lessons.

"Whatever that happened there was unfortunate.  That's not what should be happening in our schools," he said.

According to him, the headteachers are prepared to work extra hard to prevent a recurrent.

"We are saying that, when a student is sick in school, the school has to take him or her to the hospital before even the parent is called.

"We are going to tighten up whatever we are doing to make sure that such a thing will never happen again," he said.

The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has announced an investigative committee set up to investigate the death of the student following subsequent rioting of students. It has up to two weeks to complete its work.
