Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta will on Thursday, present the Mid-Year Review and Supplementary Budget to parliament with a focus on the protection of jobs and businesses.
He is expected to announce a new stimulus package for businesses hardest hit by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to JoyNews, the Finance Minister said, “I think we have to be clear that businesses are suffering so your challenge is, sure you have to pay your taxes, but how do you show that you’ll give them some flexibility and leeway for that.
The concern for many is whether government will stay within spending limit as the country prepares for the December 7th general elections.
Already, the government has disbursed some GH₵600 million to about two hundred thousand small and medium scale enterprises to alleviate the plight of businesses negatively impacted by the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“But more significantly, taxes is then finding a way to get these businesses back in operation. The key thing really is how you ensure the people have jobs. So that is what I worry about," he added.
