Police in the Savannah Region have arrested the chief of Kafaba for his alleged role in the gruesome murder of Akua Denteh, a 90-year-old woman.
Zackaria Yahaya was arrested Tuesday at Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality, Savannah Regional Police Commander, Enoch Adutwum Bediako tells JoyNews.

The chief is being treated as a suspect in the lynching of Denteh and is expected to help police with investigations and arrest of the other culprits who have since fled town.
JoyNews correspondent Isaac Nongya reports that the lynching of the old woman was part of ramifications of the burning of an NPP pavilion in the community two weeks ago.

The NPP youth in the area then informed the chief, Zackaria Yahaya of their intention to bring a priestess to the community to help identify the hoodlums responsible for the arson.
The chief, however, objected, according to the sources.
Nonetheless, the NPP brought the priestess, Sirina Fatima to the community.
During her spiritual exercise, many residents including late mama Akua Denteh arrived at the scene to observe her.
Denteh was then identified, not as a conspirator in the arson but a witch, Nongya reported.
The deceased was then forced-fed some concoction and later lynched before she was carried home where she passed away, the reporter narrated.
The chief’s arrest is the only apprehension yet in the homicide.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has dispatched a team of experts to the Savannah Region to help with investigations.
