President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has praised his administration for winning the fight against Covid-19 in the country.
In his 15th address to the nation on Sunday, the President said the sharp increase of recovery cases and the steady decline of new positive cases are clear indications that “government’s policies are working”.
Dispelling claims that Ghana had lost the fight against Covid-19, President Akufo-Addo described it as a 'baseless assertion' adding that it was merely politically expedient act used by the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stay relevant.
He emphasized on the fact that “currently, there are no recorded Covid-19 cases in the North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper West Regions", and charged their residents "to do everything possible to maintain that situation".
“Thus far, a total of 40,567 persons have recovered from the virus and this means our recovery rate has improved from 89.5 per cent to 95.1 per cent in three weeks. Our death rate continues, mercifully, to be low at 0.5 per cent.”
He pointed out the fact that testing for the virus now took a much shorter turnaround time than before, further revealing that the situational reports provided by the Ghana Health Service are up to date, as there are no backlogs of tests to be conducted.
“Indeed, test results that used to take weeks are now available within 48 hours. We have, so far, conducted 427,121 tests.”
Lauding all health workers for a good job done, the President conveyed the indebtedness of the country to health service workers for working earnestly for the country to beat the deadly pandemic.
He then urged citizens not to be complacent but to adhere to all safety protocols as dictated by the Ghana Health Service to stem the tide of infections.
