Kenya is developing a protocol that will allow experts to explore treatment of moderately ill Covid-19 patients with blood plasma from recovered patients.
Covid-19 survivors are left with blood plasma, the liquid portion of the blood, that contains antibodies used to help fight infection.
"Under this study experts will be exploring the possibility of taking the blood of someone who has recovered from Covid-19 and trying to use it as medicine for those who have moderate illness," the ministry's chief administrative secretary Mercy Mwangangi said.
Globally, there are more than 80 trials recruiting Covid-19 patients to study the effect of convalescent plasma - blood from recovered patients.
South Africa is also testing this therapy.
