Executive Member of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Yusif Alhassan Chibsah has asked football clubs in Ghana not to see them as being antagonistic to the clubs.
There has been a growing perception that the PFAG that is in charge of promoting the welfare of all professional footballers in the country defends footballers against clubs.
Chibsah, who is in charge of player relations at the PFAG, has called for a change in this misconception held by some clubs and administrators.
The former Black Meteors captain indicates that there is no agenda of hatred against the clubs.
“When the PFAG was instituted, a number of clubs tagged us as a threat to them which some of them still perceive us as such. We want to make them understand that we don’t hate the clubs but it is our quota to support and promote the development of Ghana football,” Chibsah relayed to Nhyira Power Sports.
Chibsah is hopeful that both clubs and players will support their activities to stimulate football development in Ghana.
Despite their core mandate to seek the good and protection of players in vulnerable situations, the former international relations manager of Asante Kotoko SC who also serves as a player intermediary assures that players will be reprimanded when they go wrong.
“The fact that we seek the welfare of Ghanaian footballers does not mean we are going to back them even when they are wrong. We have had cases where players have disrespected their contracts and we instructed them to go and honour it. We thank those who have acknowledged our work and hope that others will accept what the PFAG does to ensure Ghana football is promoted,” he added.
