The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says many Ghanaians have failed to follow through with Covid-19 protocols raising concerns among health workers about a possible resurgence of positive cases.
“Managing Covid-19 is about what we do. Protecting ourselves, wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing, is very crucial,” Director-General of GHS, Dr Patrick Aboagye said at a press conference on Thursday.
According to him, the most neglected of health protocols is wearing of facemask adding that it is the most sensitive of all protocols aimed at reducing the virus' spread.
He explained that in surveys conducted in different weeks to ascertain the level of compliance, the rate of proper mask-wearing dropped significantly from 44% to 14.4%.”
“In the first one that was done we had about 80% using the mask but only 44% using it correctly, in the next survey that was done this number dropped to 15%...in the very latest survey it dropped to 14.4%,” he said.
These numbers, Dr Aboagye added, means many people have dropped their guards against the coronavirus which to health workers is a “major worry.”
He revealed that the Service is hoping to organize activities and campaigns that enforces the use of mask-wearing and obeying all Covid-19 protocols.
He added that it is extremely important Ghanaians went back to religious mask-wearing to ensure the reduction in the active and positive case continue to stay low.
Dr Aboagye called on all media houses to join the campaign in creating awareness which in turn will encourage the obedience of the protocols.
