Ashanti Regional boss of the Electoral Commission (EC), Benjamin Bannor, has reportedly been robbed at gunpoint on the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi highway.
According to available information, he was attacked while returning to Kumasi from an official trip to the Western Region.
The robbers allegedly seized his personal belongings and those of other occupants of the Nissan Patrol vehicle in which they were travelling.
This attack follows a similar one on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Mamprusi Assembly in the North East Region.
Aremeyaw Somo Lucky, who was not injured said it was because security personnel had to open fire to repel the group of armed robbers who attempted to block his convoy.
The incident happened on Sunday night while the MCE was travelling to some communities to disburse money to victims of the recent floods in the Region.
The MCE, confirming the incident to JoyNews, said the attack occurred at a location between Zaksilary and Nasi where the attackers had mounted roadblocks and laid siege awaiting the arrival of his convoy.
But on Friday, October 9, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency was shot dead during a robbery attack on the Nkusukum Mankessim-Abeadze Duadze road in the Central Region.
This occurred even after the legislator had identified himself to the armed robberies.
The development has resurrected the debate about the safety of government appointees and members of parliament and various security issues ahead of the December 7, polls.
