Ashanti Regional Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Samuel Pyne has indicated that the MP for Fomena, Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah is free to rejoin the party should be emerge victorious in the December polls as an independent candidate.
Speaking to JoyNews, Mr Pyne stated that the party would welcome the MP of Fomena should he decide to rejoin the NPP as the Majority in Parliament.
According to Mr Pyne, rules and regulations governing procedures in Parliament require an independent candidate to affiliate him or herself to either the Minority or Majority in Parliament.
He stated: "If he wins the 2020 elections as an independent candidate, then the rules of the house says that you need to align yourself with one…either the Majority or Minority."
Mr Amoako Asiamah was expelled from the party after he refused to revise his decision to run for the parliamentary seat in the Fomena constituency as an independent candidate.
Following this, the New Patriotic Party has presented a petition to the Speaker of Parliament to nullify the position of Mr Amoako Asiamah as the Member of Parliament for the Fomena Constituency.
Although Mr Amoako Asiamah is no longer a member of the party, the Ashanti Regional Secretary further stated that the party has no axe to grind with him and would not deny his request should he decide to return.
"I wish he comes in and says 'I've won as an independent candidate but I want to align myself in Parliament with the Majority'," he said.
