The Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa says her outfit is 95 per cent ready to conduct the 2020 general elections.
Briefing Parliament on preparation ahead of the December polls on Saturday, the Chairperson noted that the Commission has met all the processes required to ensure a free and fair elections.
She indicated that the EC has undertaken major initiatives including the procurement of new electoral equipment and the compilation of a new voters' register ahead of the 2020 elections.
These initiatives, she explained, reaffirm the preparedness of the EC to produce a much credible result after electorates have cast their votes.
“Mr Speaker, I am pleased to inform you that the Electoral Commission is 95 per cent ready for the successful, credible, fair, orderly and peaceful conduct of the election in December 7, 2020,” she said.
Highlighting some of the strides made so far, Madam Mensa said the printing of 2020 voters’ register for the polls is currently underway and will soon be presented to the various political parties.
She also noted that 17 million unique voters have successfully been captured on the new register which will soon be copied for political parties.
Commenting on the ballot papers, the EC Chair said the printing is currently underway in seven separate printing houses in Accra.
She noted that the Commission has completed the printing of presidential ballots for all regions with exception of the Eastern Region.
For parliamentary ballots papers, she said only three regions are ready, and they are Oti, Volta and Upper East Regions.
“Agents of political parties and the security agencies are monitoring the processes at all the printing houses,” she told the House.
According to her, the distribution of election materials to various regions and districts are also underway noting that it is also 95 per cent complete.
In view of these, Mrs Mensa assured Parliamentarians that the Commission is committed to delivering transparent, free and fair elections on December, 7.
