President Akufo-Addo has revealed that the country has, over the past two weeks, recorded an average of 130 new cases per day.
According to him, the recent surge in new infections may deteriorate the strides made in the fight against the virus.
He made these comments during his 19th address to Ghanaians on the situation as far as the pandemic is concerned.
In a televised address on Sunday, the President announced that there are currently 1,139 active cases as of November 6, 2020, with 320 deaths recorded.
"The number of daily infections is on the rise, from an average of 25 new cases per day then, to an average of over 130 new cases per day in the course of the last two weeks," he said.
He further revealed that the Greater Accra Region makes up 75% of the new active cases.
It is followed by Ashanti, Bono, Eastern and Western regions constituting 16% of the country's active cases, the President announced adding that "the remaining 11 Regions make up four per cent of the cases."
Meanwhile, arrivals at Kotoka International Airport are responsible for the other five per cent.
Expressing worry over the development, President Akufo-Addo called on the citizenry to intensify adherence to the necessary health protocols to help prevent its spread.
"Now more than ever, we have to adhere to mask-wearing, handwashing, the use of sanitisers, and social distancing protocols that have become a part of our daily routines, and which has ensured that we do not impose, all over again, the restrictions we are seeing in other parts of the world," he explained.
