The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says President Akufo-Addo has failed to honour the pledge he made in 2016 to eradicate corruption.
Sammy Gyamfi, at the 17th edition of the NDC press conference on Thursday, stated that for a Party that rode on an anti-corruption campaign to secure victory in the 2016 election campaign, the NPP-led government has performed woefully in the fight against corruption.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo-led government since assuming office in 2016 has made the nation more intolerable and vicious against individuals and institutions who speak against their corrupt ways.
In view of this, he believes that “President Akufo-Addo has failed the credibility and integrity test.”
“Unlike the 2016 election where president Akufo-Addo mounted a moral high ground of so-called incorruptibility, and projected angelic piety to the Ghanaian people on the subject of corruption, its true credentials on the corruption fight have now been laid bare to Ghanaian electorate.
“Indeed, President Akufo-Addo’s incorruptibility tag is now, a thing of ridicule, trampled upon with utter disdain by fair-minded Ghanaians who have observed events unfold over the past for years,” he stated.
Mr Gyamfi also underscored that the 2020 election is not going to be about mere promises, rather the Ghanaian electorate will compare the performance of former President John Mahama and President Akufo-Addo on policies and actions each of them has instituted to deal with corruption in the country.
Mr Gyamfi is however convinced that Mr Mahama tackled corruption way better than the incumbent administration which is only interested in robbing the country of its scares resources.
