Bole Bamboi MP, Yussif Sulemana has dismissed concerns that the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) hold on the seat is under threat.

This follows a recent report of defection by some of his party members to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Over the weekend, NPP Youth Organiser Nana Boakye oversaw a ceremony in the home constituency of John Mahama during which a 59-member youth group announced their departure from the NDC to NPP.

According to them, the NDC has neglected their needs despite their sacrifices for the goodwill of the party.

“We have sacrificed a lot including our lives secretly just for what we would eat and followed them to Sunyani and other unthinkable things which we stand here today to apologise to the NPP and support our only brother, David Sei Demaha (NPP candidate) to win the seat,” Alhassan Anars who leads the group announced.

But Alhaji Sulemana is not perturbed. He assures NDC will retain the seat and John Mahama will win at least 90% of votes there.

“The seat is not under threat. We are only working hard to increase our figures. Turn out and spoilage of ballot papers is the only problem we are solving which is why we are campaigning. As for retaining the seat, it is a done deal…” he told JoyNews.

“We need to push up the turn out. If we do that, Mahama should be doing close to 90% of the votes,” he added.

The Bole MP said the NDC has a plan to deal with water and road challenges in the constituency which remain the biggest headaches of the people.

“Under John Mahama, in 2016, we did close to 64 boreholes… And the people show appreciation….
“There is a master plan… The solution is to take water from Black Volta, treat it and distribute across the constituency. His Excellency John Mahama has bought into this… We will push to fulfill that promise,” he told Joy News.

“We have quite a number of roads we (NDC) had started. The NPPP won power and they abandoned it…. At a point, we lost some lives on the road… Many young men use motor bikes to climb sands and we lose lives,” he explains.

Alhaji Sulemana says the NDC will resume work on these roads when they win power.
