The CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg clash between Asante Kotoko and Nouadhibou has been cancelled.
The game was initially delayed due to COVID-19 concerns in the camp of the Mauritanian champions but was later cancelled after all parties failed to find a resolution to the issue.
The fixture was meant to start at 15:00 GMT on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium but the unfortunate development halted the potential nail biter.
According to reports, two players from Nouadhibou tested positive for the virus but insisted on playing the game.
The CAF disciplinary committee will give a ruling concerning the turn of events in the following days.
Officials present at the venue will give their report to CAF and its General Secretary containing the relevant facts leading to the cancellation of the game.
After the report reaches the needed parties, the General Secretary will then refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee who will scrutinise the facts before making a decision.
The decision will vary based upon their interpretation of the facts. Kotoko may be awarded a straight win or wait until another date is scheduled for the second leg.
Also, there could be sanctions if a team is caught to have refused to play the game, a move that is deemed to go against CAF rules.
The first leg, which was played in the previous week, ended in a 1-1 draw.
