Traders at the Kantamanto Market are still counting huge losses following a fire outbreak in the Central Business District of Accra Tuesday night.
On Wednesday morning, affected traders at the sewing section of the market recounted that the fire destroyed scores of sewing machines together with bales of finished clothes and sums of money.
“We have just been awarded a contract for school uniforms to be sewn. I personally took a loan in order to be awarded the contract but I have lost everything amounting to ₵60,000 in the fire,’’ one of them told JoyNews' Benjamin Akakpo.

Others also blame the Ghana National Fire Service for not being helpful claiming their tenders came to the scene without water.
Another trader narrated, “I arrived at 12am to an intense fire burning properties. I have lost 4 solid machines together with bales of school uniforms ready to be delivered to customers. Now, ₵70,000 is the amount I have lost in the fire."

Some of them wondered what the future holds as the charing of their property meant loss of livelihoods for their families.
These affected traders are pleading with the government to intervene and ameliorate their plight.
Two weeks ago, a portion of the first floor of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) Liberty House Building in the same area was gutted by fire.
