Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region have protested against the Electoral Commission (EC) over the declaration of the 2020 election results.
The move is one of the ways the party is projecting their rebuttal of the results as they allege that the EC rigged the elections in favour of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The supporters walked from the NDC Regional Secretariat through the principal streets of Wa to the office of the region's EC on Wednesday amid music and chants.
Clad in red and black, the supporters projected ply cards with inscriptions such as 'The stolen verdict', 'No Mahama, No Peace!', 'No Re-collation, No Peace', 'Ghanaians voted for change'.
The petition, among other things, says that John Dramani Mahama is the rightful winner of the 2020 elections and demanded that the results should be re-collated.
Municipal Director for the EC ion the area, Ali Osman Adamu who received the petition on behalf of the Commission thanked the members and promised to “forward it today to the chairperson of the EC and hope that all the petition that you’ve made will be attended to.”
Meanwhile, a similar protest hit Tamale in the Northern Region around the same time following that of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region and Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday.
