The chiefs of Akpafu and Lolobi traditional areas have expressed worry over failure to exercise their franchise in the just-ended December polls.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Joint Steering Committee, although the Electoral Commission (EC) "combined their effort in organising the 2020 general elections effectively, it resulted in disenfranchising the two Traditional Areas under the above subject matter".
The two traditional chiefs also noted that back in November, the EC assured that citizens of Akpafu and Lolobi will be given the chance to cast their votes after several concerns raised of a possible electoral exemption.
"When we raised our concerns in our earlier letter dated 27th November, 2020, the EC allayed our fears and apprehensions by assuring us per their Press Conference that we would have an opportunity to exercise our franchise in our 'Mother Constituency' this Presidential and Parliamentary elections."
They also expressed their dissatisfaction as to why the EC disappointed them just before 12 hours to the general election, thus, indicating in their 'press release which read "they have no provision to accommodate the Akpafu and Lolobi Traditional Areas within the Hohoe Constituency".
"To rub salt into injury, the EC announced that Akapfu and Lolobi Traditional Areas cannot vote in the Parliamentary elections for no reason communicated to us."
Prior to the elections, the Chiefs of Akpafu and Lolobi Traditional areas cautioned the Electoral Commission against an attempt by the EC to disenfranchise their citizens in the 2020 general election.
"Any other action or attempt to place us or suspend our full participation in the coming electoral process will amount to deliberate disenfranchising of our right to vote under the 1992 constitution of Ghana. It will be a clear disrespect of our dignity as a people and we will resist any such action with all the force and might available to us."
