General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the NDC will not recognise Akufo-Addo as President following a "flawed election."

Speaking at a press conference Friday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the party's decision will remain resolute until "all issues surrounding his flawed elections are satisfactory."

NDC's John Dramani Mahama together with some MPs boycotted the swearing-in ceremony of NPP's Akufo-Addo as President on January 7, 2021.

In the words of the NDC, the deployment of military personnel during the inauguration of the 8th Parliament "is a great assault to the dignity of the legislative arm of government.

"Events preceding and during the election of the Speaker have cast dark clouds about our democracy and has once again exposed the undemocratic tendencies of the Akufo-Addo-led Administration.

"What happened on January 6th and 7th was simply God's way of bringing light to all Ghanaians the NDC has been complaining about when we went to the polls," Mr Asiedu Nketia said.

Mr Asiedu Nketia also said, "No other person than Nana Akufo-Addo as acting Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and Chair of the National Security Council was directly responsible for the unwarranted illegal invasion of Parliament before this inauguration."

Meanwhile, the NDC has urged the newly elected Speaker, Alban Bagbin to put the interest of the country first before any other person or political party.

The party also called on the Speaker to investigate happenings during Parliament's 8th inauguration and punish all those found culpable in accordance with the laws of this country.

Although the NDC believes to be the Majority Caucus, Mr Asiedu Nketia indicated that the NDC will have a clear majority in Parliament after matters associated with Techiman South, Sefwi Wiawso, Hohoe constituencies have been resolved in the court.
