The Australian High Commissioner, Ghana His Excellency Gregory Andrews has lauded people of the Volta Region for their commitment to keeping their environments clean.
He indicated that his first impression about the region during his day's visit was the clean communities and streets stretching from Sogakofe through Adidome, Adaklu to Ho, the Volta Regional capital.
”When I came in and crossed the Volta River, I notice no plastic pollution and I wonder whether the Volta Region would win a prize for being the cleanest area in Ghana”, he said.
”What I have learned is that people have a real pride in sweeping, people get up every morning and sweep their communities.”
He, therefore, implored residents in other parts of the country to take a cue from the region’s efforts in ensuring a clean and hygienic environment.
He emphasized that Ghana must take issues of sanitation seriously if it wishes to harness the potential of its tourism sector, which will contribute to the increase of foreign exchange.
He attested that clean environments in Australia have contributed to the growth of the country’s tourism sector, which is its biggest foreign exchange.
