The Health Services Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) says over 200 of its members have contracted Covid-19 with 10 deaths.
According to the General Secretary of the Union, Franklin Ansah, the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and sidelining some health workers who are not classified as front liners have contributed to the development.
Mr Ansah said two health services workers died from the virus during the week.
He said the government’s decision to truncate tax waivers for health workers is demoralising.
The Union is, therefore, appealing for the adequate, appropriate and timely supply of PPEs to health workers.
They are also asking the government to ensure that all health workers are tested, and also considered first when vaccines become available.
Another concern they say is for the government to honour its promise of paying compensation to health workers who have tested for Covid-19 in line of duty.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional GMA President Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo says more doctors are testing for Covid-19 in the second wave of the pandemic.
