Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has intimated that the late Jerry John Rawlings, though a hard taskmaster, was tolerant and magnanimous towards officials appointed under his tenure.
Martin Amidu in a tribute to the late former President said Mr Rawlings was the kind of man who drew the best out of all his subordinates, each of whom was proud to serve him to the utmost capacity.
"Even the traitors who once claimed to be his comrades who hurt him most unjustifiably before his demise attests in their traitorous books to his qualities as a statesman and a leader to whom they and the nation owe gratitude," Mr Amidu said.
Reacting to the demise of the former president who passed on at the intensive care unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on November 12 2020, Mr Amidu said he received the news with great shock, adding that he is yet to come to terms with the demise.
"I still cannot believe that you have left us, your comrades, so suddenly and put the whole nation in shock and despair," he said.
He also touted the achievements of the Rawlings administration and stated that former President Rawlings was very instrumental in the development of democracy in the country.
Speaking further he noted that, Mr Rawlings, though departed will remain a gem that will remain in the hearts and minds of everyone whose life he touched in some way.
