Minister-designate for Children, Gender and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo has promised to tackle the issue of human trafficking as a serious issue when she assumes office as minister.
Answering questions from members of Parliament's Appointments Committee, the MP promised to ensure agencies under the ministry charged with the responsibility of dealing with this issue are up to the task.
“Mr Chair, when I get to the Ministry, I will engage the department of human trafficking, which I know exist, for a proper briefing on matters relating to that, and then I can proceed on the right strategy and the right policies,” she said during vetting Wednesday.
Meanwhile, she also declared that she is strongly against decriminalisation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ).
However, Sarah Adwoa Safo, noted that the country's current laws, as well as its cultural practices, frown upon the act.
“Section 104 of the criminal code prohibits one from natural canal knowledge with another person. So on the issue of its criminality, it is non-negotiable,” she said.
She added: “On the issues of our cultural acceptance and norms to these practices are also frown upon.
"For me, these are two distinct clarity on the matter and that is what strongly I stand for.”
