Minister-designate for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has disclosed that, his outfit will collaborate with the National House of Chiefs to establish a DNA genealogy database.
This move, Ebenezer Kojo Kum explained, will enable the state trace genuine successions to stools and skins in the country.
"Already, the National House of Chiefs has started the process of documentation of various secessions to stools and skins.
"When I'm given the nod, I intend collaborating with them on another level where if possible, [we'll] introduce DNA genealogy database which will serve as a complement to what is already existing," he said.
Chieftaincy disputes have stalled development in various communities in the country. It also has resulted in violent clashes in some parts of the country.
Government has sought various interventions to address the matter, including a recent decision by President Akufo-Addo to increase the number of judicial committees and regional house sittings to hasten the adjudication of outstanding disputes.
To complement efforts in curbing the canker, Mr Kum said his outfit will introduce a DNA genealogy database to trace ancestry origins of stools and skins, since "a family tree can determine who has a legitimate right to occupy a stool or skin."
