A trip of the transmission lines at about 1:46 pm (13:46) at mining towns, Prestea and Obuasi is said to have been the main cause of the power outage yesterday, Joy Business has gathered.
Though the Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) attributed it to a technical fault, Joy Business is learning that the ‘trip of the transmission line’ caused voltages in the middle belt to collapse.
This is said to have not been dealt with in time by operators on duty, leading to a cascading trip of connected transmission lines at 2:09pm (14:09).
Also, attempts to bring Akosombo Dam online failed twice, delaying the power restoration.
Almost the entire nation was plunged into darkness Sunday evening before the power was restored.
GRIDCo said in a statement it was working to ascertain the reasons behind the total shutdown and will update relevant stakeholders in due course.
It however said “any convenience caused is deeply regretted”.
