March 26, 2021, is officially Air Max Day, Nike’s annual celebration of the storied sneaker line. In previous years, the Oregon-based super brand has released new takes on existing styles, such as a camouflage Air Max 2090 or the metallic Air Max 90, but this year it is introducing a brand-new model, the Air Max Pre-Day.
The ultra-sleek lime-hued Pre-Day comes with the signature Airbag that is used across some of the key players in Nike’s catalogue of footwear, from the Air Max 1s and Air Max 90 to the Air Jordan IIIs, IVs, Vs, and VIs. The new sneakers, however, take on an entirely new silhouette.
Rather than being slightly visible through a window in the sole of the shoes, the full unit, which is a bubble of pressurised air that works to give you that spring in your step, is now exposed between the midsole and outsole. What’s more, thanks to a reduction in layers between foot and Air, the Air Max Pre-Day delivers a more responsive bounce than ever before.
Additionally, in keeping with Nike’s dedication to its “Move To Zero” initiative, through which it plans to emit zero waste or carbon by 2025, the Pre-Day is the most sustainably designed Air Max style to ever have gone into production.
The trainers are made with at least 20 per cent recycled content by weight and the upper is crafted from 100 per cent recycled polyester, as is the back tab, while the suede tip is 100 per cent recycled material.
Meanwhile, 75 percent of the Air unit is made using recycled TPU, the clip holding it in place is 20 percent TPU and the outsole is 13 percent Nike Grind Rubber, which is made from upcycled Nike manufacturing scrap, unsellable products, and worn-out sneakers.
If the Pre-Day isn’t for you, Nike is also dropping a pair of Swarovski crystal-embellished Air Max 97s and an Air Max 90 in a pink colorway inspired by bacon on Friday.
