A Nalerigu District Court judge in the North East Region refused to commence hearing of a case presented before it owing to a plaintiff’s failure to observe the Covid-19 safety protocols.
Judge Amadu Issifu on Thursday, April 22, kicked out plaintiff, known to many as Big Adams for showing up in court without a facemask.
He also threatened to strike out the case presented before him and commit the plaintiff to a one week jail term.
But he rescinded his decision after the plaintiff pleaded for clemency, indicating that his failure to appear before the court without a facemask was due to health issues.
Mr. Adams who spoke to JoyNews after the court lauded the decision made by the judge. He further revealed that he had a stomach upset, the reason he was unable to come to court with a facemask.
“It is a good order because I am a businessman who also sells facemasks. Usually, I travel around with some in my bag. I have had to save those who were caught up at police barriers without facemasks.
But what happened today is that this morning, I had a stomach upset that is how come I came without a facemask. It is a routine for me and I do have it with me everywhere I go. The example he cited in India that some 2000 people died of the virus just yesterday, so I am not surprised by his reaction,” he told Correspondent, Eliasu Tanko.
The plaintiff, Big Adams is expected to appear before the court in a weeks’ time for the hearing of his case.
