Agrihouse Foundation, an agricultural advocacy agency has organized the 2nd edition of the Agri Woman Market Place.
The event was held at the forecourt of the foundation in Dzorwulu on Friday 30th April, 2021.
The Agri Woman Market Place is both a physical and digital module of a Farmers’ Market platform intentionally designed for women farmers and agribusinesses.
It is sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to address challenges faced by women in the value chain.
Speaking at the event, Maame Serwaa, a first time participant, said she looks forward to making sales and getting contacts that will help in expanding her business.
“My expectation is to sell, make good contacts and basically get whatever will facilitate my business to expand,” the agro-based sauce maker said.
Denita Nabil, a cereal seller and a second time participant said her first time in participating in the Agri Woman Market Place in March 2021 was good, hence her decision to partake in the second edition.
“It was super awesome for me because I was able to get contacts that stock my products in their shops,” she said.
The Agri Woman Market Place does not only consist of participants who sell food items. There was an IT (Information Technology) personnel, Blessing Nyatepe, who shared her doubts when she decided to participate in the first edition.
“At Rhema IT Solutions, we design, brand and print. We also train women who want to learn IT. We were afraid the first time because the Agri Woman Market Place is mainly about agriculture and we were thinking people will not like our idea. But when we came, a lot of people contacted us for their branding solution,” she stated.
Founder of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akorsah, shared the rationale behind the Agri Woman Market Place and disclosed that the first edition was a success with about 90% of the women making sales, hence the determination to hold the second edition.
“The Agri Woman Market Place is a monthly farmers’ market module which is designed for women in agribusiness. Last month, we had about 25 to 27 women participating and I can confidently say that all of them returned home with just their handbags. They really made sales,” she said.
She further stated that her team is “passionately driven and desire to make impact”.
The Agri Woman Market Place was designed to address challenges faced by women in agriculture especially during the covid-19 pandemic.
This provides a 24-hour online buy and sell and a monthly direct farmers’ market. The monthly direct farmers’ market will be held every Friday of the month to avoid food losses and food wastage.
