The UPSA Law School will tomorrow Wednesday 26th May, 2021 host the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and the Secretary General of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in the maiden edition of the Africa Trade Roundtable.
An initiative of the Centre for African Legal Studies at the UPSA Law School, the Africa Trade Roundtable is designed as a platform for sustained public engagement on the pertinent issues arising out of the maiden implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The event is being organised under the theme ‘Advancing a Continental Market through the AfCFTA’.
The webinar seeks to gather ideas from international trade experts, scholars and policy makers on two main areas. Firstly, “Trade and Investment facilitation under AfCFTA: the Opportunities and Challenges presented and The Implications of AfCFTA on International Commercial Dispute Resolution in Africa”.
Some expected speakers at the event are Prof. Richard Frimpong Oppong, FGA, International Commercial Law Expert and Associate Professor at the University of Bradford; Youssouf Moussa Dawaleh, President of the Executive Council of the Pan-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI); Yusuf Daya, Director, AU/AfCFTA Relations and Trade Policy at the African Export and Import Bank (Afreximbank) and many others.
The Special Guest of Honour and lead keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana.
A keynote address will also be delivered by Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat.
Speaking to Joy Business on the impact the School intends to make with the event, Gertrude Amorkor Amarh, Acting Coordinator of the Africa Trade Roundtable indicated that the UPSA Law School intends to create a platform for the sustained engagement of key issues arising out of the implementation of the AfCFTA.
She added that the School also intends to educate members of the general public and contribute towards policy making and reform with regards to the AfCFTA.
She further said the Africa Trade Roundtable is unique because the panelists for the event are persons that are actually at the forefront of the implementation of the AfCFTA.
