Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Kenneth Ashigbey has advised the Ghana Armed Forces, to strip Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman of his new position as the Commanding Officer of the 64 Infantry Regiment, until investigations have exonerated him of any wrong doing.
This, he said is to ensure swiftness of investigations into the alleged attacks by the National Security operatives on Citi FM’s journalist, Caleb Kudah, and the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator DCOP Ayensu Opare Addo.
Kenneth Ashigbey said he struggled to understand the justification the military authorities could 'possibly have for promoting somebody or reinstating somebody” who was removed from office in disrepute.
“Being in command comes with some power and we all know that when somebody has done wrong, one of the basic things to do is to interdict the person or at least let the person stand aside so that the person can not interfere with investigations.
“How are you going to do that when the person has control and Command and when the person has all of those forces under their power?," he lamented.
Ken Ashigbey was contributing to discussions on JoyNews/ Newsfile Saturday, May 29. he was commenting on how Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman, who was reportedly removed from the National Security Secretariat, was in less than 24 hours, appointed to lead the 64 Infantry Regiment as their Commander.
Mr Ashigbey however, advised the Ghana Armed Forces that for Sanity and Reputation sake, it should not be registered in the memory of Ghanaians that the Institution responsible for Security was upholding indiscipline.
According to him, it is impossible to convince Ghanaians that less than 24 hours after the National Security removed him from office, the Army found him as the best fit to lead a 64 regiment as their Commander.
In a statement signed by the Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman and three others were released to their mother agencies for further investigations and appropriate sanctions following their alleged misconduct in the manhandling of Caleb Kudah for filming at National Security premises.
“The secondment of Lieutenant Colonel Frank Agyeman at the Ministry has been reversed. The officer is to report to the Chief of Defence Staff for further investigation and appropriate action,” National Security’s statement communicated.
However, in less than 24 hours, the Ghana Armed Forces appointed him as the Commanding Officer of the 64 Infantry Regiment.
