A 32-year-old acting accountant of Produce Buying Company Limited at Fosukrom in the Bia East district of the Western North Region has allegedly lost an amount of ¢300,000 meant for payment of cocoa farmers to money doublers.
Kwaa Kyereme, has subsequently been arrested and remanded by Bibiani Circuit Court.
According to the Bibiani Circuit Court, presided over by his honour Joshua Caleb Abaidoo, the complainant in this case is the Produce Buying Company Limited (PBC) being represented by the district manager of Fosukrom, Donatus Sekyim.
The accused person is an acting accountant working under the complainant with the same company at Sefwi Fosukrom.
It stated that, on April 28, the district manager, Donatus Sekyim and the accused person went to their regional office at Sehwi Essam in Bia West district and collected ¢316,140 meant for payment of farmers whose cocoa beans were bought on credit by the company.
The accused person and the district manager brought the money to the district office at Sehwi Fosukrom and kept some in their office safe to be disbursed to their purchasing clerks on the following day.
The accused person who had the office key went back and took ¢300,000 to his own office and concealed same in his bag without the knowledge of his district manager and went home with it after closing from work.
At 11:30 pm on the same day, Donatus Sekyim, the district manager had a distress phone call from his accountant that he had been robbed of the said amount at his office.
Mr Donatus Sekyim, however, informed the police and the accused person was intensely apprehended.
During investigations, he admitted the offence and told the police that he invited some people from Kumasi to double the money for him, but unfortunately, he slept in the process and woke to see that the money doublers have taken the money away.
Meanwhile, the court has remanded the accused person, Kwaa Kyereme, to two weeks and to reappear before the court on June 15.
