Ghanaians who have enrolled on the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) as well as the National Identification/ Ghana card can now use a shortcode to merge both numbers.
This was disclosed by Acting Public Affairs Manager for SSNIT, Charles Gershon on the JoyFM Super Morning Show.
Speaking on Monday on the show, he said" if you want to merge the numbers using the shortcode, all one needs to do is to dial *711*9# and follow the voice prompts."
The comment comes after government's decision to replace all SSNIT ID numbers with that of the Ghana Card.
Effective June 28, 2021, the National Identification Card will become the unique SSNIT Number.
Corporate Affairs Manager, Afua Amankwa Sarkodie who was also on the show explained that the exercise is "to link both numbers in order to make sure that there is only one card which is the Ghana card for pension transactions."
She added that the exercise will also create convenience, comfort and improve ways of doing business.
"The activity is aimed at helping to identify survivors when people pass on, eliminate and reduce fraud and impersonation since we will have the biometrics of people.
SSNIT customers can also register online via the SSNIT website, www.ssnit.org.gh .
