A Community Mental Health Practitioner at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital says its Psychiatry Department works in partnership with Faith-Based Healing Centres to refer cases to them for treatment.
Speaking on Joy News’ Ultimate Health on Sunday, Francis Yeboah revealed that some faith-based Healing Centres come to their facility for their client’s medication to be administered.
He added that they are permitted to go to the faith based healing centres to monitor the health conditions of patients in their camps as a way of "integrating our setting with them".
“So they come to us and we get them the right medications, right treatment and they give us time for us to come and do monitoring, where when we go and they bring the patient out and we access them, we try to do everything that we can for them whiles they are there,” he said.
He said when the psychiatric team visits these centres to educate the caregivers of the centres, they point out the things that are not done well at the camp.
Mr Yeboah, however noted that one challenge facing the community based psychiatric is the lack of facilities to hold up people with mental health challenges.
He added, “these faith based centres have provided a lot of facilities for people with such conditions, so even with everything, they are there.”
