Some tollbooth attendants at the Tema-side of the Accra-Tema motorway, are asking authorities to provide speed ramps in near the booth.
They also requested the construction of modernised tollbooths to guarantee their safety.
The call was necessitated by an accident that occurred at the toll booth on Monday. A tipper truck heading to Accra from Michelle Camp on Monday crashed into one of the tollbooths [tollbooth 2], killing one person and injuring six others who were at the scene.
The workers believe the provision of speed ramps would slow down the speed of vehicles and reduce the impact of any future incident.
Some of the workers who spoke to JoyNews on condition of anonymity claim this is not the first time a tipper truck has crashed into a tollbooth, destroying it immediately.
According to them, about three to four months ago, tollbooth 5 was destroyed by a tipper truck that ran into it.
This, they say makes them feel unsafe in their working environment.
The workers, who are mourning their colleague who died in yesterday's accident, want authorities to take steps immediately to ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, they have displayed red bands on the section of the motorway to indicate the loss of life of their colleague, Isaac Kojo Koomson.
