Ghanaian UK-based Afrobeats singer Fuse ODG has condemned critics judging Ghanaian artists by their inability to win a Grammy.
According to the ‘Antenna’ hitmaker, Ghanaian musicians' talent and hard work are way above the Grammys.
Therefore, he admonishes Ghanaians to stop criticizing and trolling local artists for failing to win what is said to be the biggest recognition in world music.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, he said, “I feel like we need to be careful about equating the Grammy to talent. Ghana has some of the best talents the world has ever seen.
"And for the Afrobeats scene, next to Nigeria, Ghana has contributed more than any other country in the world. We have broken records that nobody has ever gotten to. So Ghana to me is way above the Grammys.”
He added, “The Grammys doesn’t equal the talent of the artiste, Bob Marley has never won a Grammy in his life, but to me and everyone as well, he’s one of the best musicians in the world.
"So we need to be very careful, because it’s very demotivating when artistes are working very hard, and to me, we should not raise this Grammy thing to a level where we equate it to the hard work and talent of Ghanaian musicians.”
Fuse ODG said, “We’ve done so much we can celebrate, but we always focus on the wrong things. Eventually, when it happens (win a Grammy), we should celebrate it, but we should not hold on to it because it’s man-made.”
