The Ethiopia national team will have to look for an alternative stadium to play their matches following the decision from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to ban the Bahir Dar stadium.
The venue in question has been the preferred place for the Ethiopia national team in the recent past.
However, Caf’s ban means that the Walyas cannot play their home games at the Bahir Dar stadium anymore as they have to turn their attention to other options.
The decision also implies that Ethiopia’s 2022 World Cup qualifier game against Ghana could now take place at a neutral ground.
The ban was confirmed following the visit of Caf’s club licensing senior manager, Muhammed F. Sidat, to several pitches in the country.
The Bahir Dar stadium, according to the assessment did not meet at least seven of the targets required by CAF, which included substandard medical facilities, VIP, Media centers as well as training facilities.
According to the Federation, the failure to meet such requirements means that the stadium is now banned from hosting international games like the World Cup Qualifiers and CAF club competitions.
With the World Cup qualifier against Ghana slated for November 11, CAF has set October 20 as a deadline for Ethiopia to present a new venue to replace the Bahir Dar Stadium.
Failure to find a replacement before the given date will see the fixture take place in Ghana.
Per the Ethiopian Football Federation, Jimma and Hawassa stadiums also failed to meet the demands of Caf to host international games as well.
