Award-winning R&B singer Ari Lennox has deleted all her posts on Twitter and her Ghana related posts on Instagram after some social media users criticised her over them.
Lennox came to Ghana to perform at the Afrochella concert held on December 28, 2021, and took the opportunity to tour parts of Accra.
The ‘Pressure’ singer wrote about Ghana "wow it's a rare and good feeling to consistently wake up with peace and happiness. I really owe that to Ghana.”
In another post, Lennox talked about crying during her first visit to the beach and aching for her ancestors. “I didn’t feel alone. It was a surreal experience.”
The singer added that she felt it was nice to get away from depression and anxiety.
However, these posts generated unexpected reactions from some Twitter users. Some found it corny that Lennox, like many of her colleagues in the diaspora who travelled before her, sought a connection with her ancestors.
Other social media users outrightly laughed at her posts.
Others felt her reaction to the country was ingenuine, especially since they do not have the same experiences she's having.
One user wrote, “It's back again, this woman thinks she’s in Wakanda, this is too corny omg.”
“Are your ancestors even from Ghana,” another wrote.
One user even told the singer to shut the “fuck” up while another claimed Americans will never stop fetishising Africa.
This among many other tweets and replies underneath her Instagram posts seem to have influenced the singer to delete her posts.
Prior to deleting all her tweets, Lennox wrote "this internet shit is such a lie."
