Suncity Farms hoping to build Afadzato South’s local economy through job creation

An Agro-processing company, Suncity Farms is positioning itself to contribute to creating a robust local economy in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region.

The company which is setting up a food processing plant hopes to create over 350 direct and indirect jobs for residents, to help reduce unemployment and improve livelihoods.

The management of Suncity farms has already acquired farmlands at Ve-Agbome to cultivate various crops for production, with priority on producing organic crops.

Cashew, ginger, pepper, maize, okro among other crops are being cultivated for production.

Multipurpose factories are also being constructed to process produce from the farm fields into finished products for export.

8 structures are being erected at the factory site to house different food processing plants.

A unit would contain about 4,000 tons capacity warehouse, a processing unit, offices, and staff apartments.

Under construction is also a packaging unit and a quality control unit, while a multipurpose sports complex, and a health facility for use by the staff would also be constructed in the enclave.

Suncity Farms would process pepper and ginger into powder, among other crops, all of which will be of international standards, for export.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Letsa and Afadzato South DCE, Etornam Flolu touring the factory site.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, who toured the facility during a working visit to the district was enthused with the level of work done and the vision of managers of the farm.

“It is very impressive and we are happy that such a facility has been located in the Afadzato South which is known for agribusiness and tourism”, he said.

He pledged the government’s support to ensure the farm achieves its vision and objectives.

The factory would commence operation in July 2022.
